What’s your fondest memory aboard two wheels?

When my parents bought me my first dirt bike at the age of five. I was completely hooked when I rode it for the first time and I wanted to ride every chance I could after that. A few years later when I saw Supercross on TV I knew right then and there that’s what I wanted to do when I grew up!

What inspires you the most about the opportunity to help children?

I’m driven by the chance to invest in kids and help them discover their potential, which hopefully allows them to see all the possibilities that are out there. None of us would be where we are today without the support from others, especially when we were kids, so I am excited to help the next generation of children live their best life.

Who has been an inspiration in your life?

My grandmother, Barb. I come from a very close family, but she and I always shared a special connection. She was unfortunately diagnosed with cancer in 2000, but the way she fought the disease, remained strong, and always maintained a sense of peace has been a source of inspiration for me all along. She didn’t let it take away from living her life to the fullest, no matter how bad it got. Losing her in early 2005 was one of the hardest things I’ve ever faced, but she was an example of how I want to live my life and I’ve aspired to honor her in that way ever since.

What brought you to the Ryan Dungey Foundation?

I have been a longtime volunteer for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. As an athlete growing up, I’ve had an affinity for St. Jude’s fitness-focused events as they’ve always felt like home. After getting to know Ryan and working alongside him through leading his St. Jude event, we quickly developed a great friendship and realized our shared passion for doing more. Many of our conversations found their way to the dreams of other ways we could make an impact, which ultimately led us to where we are today with the foundation.

What’s your fondest memory aboard two wheels?

My fondest memory comes from the process of learning to ride my bike. The excitement and fear that turned into determination, goals, and pride is something I will never forget. I can vividly remember where I was at, what I was wearing, who was there, and how someday I was going to conquer the massive hill outside my childhood home. Now having nieces and nephews, when I watch them go through that same achievement that memory replays in my mind and I am filled with that same pride of them.

What inspires you the most about the opportunity to help children?

I am most excited for the opportunity to pay it forward by investing in organizations that take chances on children. Not only do I believe that children will show us what they are capable of if we give them an opportunity, but they will also teach us just as much along the way. I love the opportunity to be inspired by youth. In almost every instance when I’m with kids I am instantly reminded of the power in being creative, growing, and laughing.

Who has been an inspiration in your life?

I’ve always found inspiration in those around me. Everyone has a story, a fight, a passion, and a reason why. My parents instilled in my sisters and myself from an early age the fundamental value of giving back. It was always about sharing, caring, and helping others, whether at church, school, and wherever else we could find the opportunity. I have learned from them that how I help will differ in seasons of life, but that finding a way to be supportive, especially in places where I am passionate, is important to who I am.

What brought you to the Ryan Dungey Foundation?

I’ve been witness to Ryan’s journey as a globally admired racer, both personally and professionally, and I’ve always been keenly aware of his passion to help others. As his career went on, that passion only amplified and I was fortunate to play a part in bringing some of those aspirations to fruition. My desire to help kids is more rewarding than anything monetary, and the beliefs and mission of the foundation is something I’m truly proud to be a part of as I know we’ll be able to change lives.

What’s your fondest memory aboard two wheels?

To me, the best and most memorable times are the ones where you understand the fear, but are still willing to take the risk. When things work out it’s one of the most rewarding experiences, but even if they don’t it’s something you can learn from. It’s nice to scare yourself every once in a while. I also just love the competition aspect of riding.

What inspires you the most about the opportunity to help children?

The selflessness of it all. Kids aren’t really given a choice in the circumstance they might find themselves in, but we’re privileged to be in a position to help. The chance to dedicate time, effort and resources to help sick children, as well as being able to get young kids onto two wheels is something I am so proud to be a part of.

Who has been an inspiration in your life?

My family is a constant source of inspiration for me. Their happiness means everything to me, and the joy they provide by simply loving me for who I am is humbling. I’m also inspired by Ryan. He’s been a mentor of mine for a long time, because the sport of motocross can feel very isolating at times. He’s always handled the pressures with grace and humility, and he’s always found time to help me in my own journey. His support has been amazing and I’ll be forever grateful for his friendship and loyalty.
